course products

Going through the Reserve Officer Course includes lots of traditions and insignia. During the course the Student Body offers officer students a chance to obtain different kinds of course products as a memory of their service in the ROS.

COURSE KNIFE

In 1959, course 99 chose the first course knife of the history of the ROS to be the Lapland Border Guard District’s ranger knife. The borrowed knife model however didn’t feel suited, and the same course began to design their own knife model. The new model, descriptive of the Finnish platoon leader, was distributed for the first time in course 100. Up to course 252 it has waited officer students on their bed after the Kirkkojärvi March. Since course 253 the course knife has been earned after the Leading Exercise.

In addition to the traditional course knife there is a possibility to obtain special knives like ranger or engineer knives. The price of the traditional knife can alternate between courses.

COURSE TRACKSUIT AND BAG

The Student Council designs a course tracksuit for every course, which every officer student can order with his or her name and branch of insignia. In addition there is an option to order a course bag. The course tracksuit is recognized by the Finnish Defence Forces and it can be used instead of the official tracksuit.

COURSE BOOK

The Student Council’s Course Book Section’s mission is to gather a course book from the course itself, topical events and interviews. The book summarises the 14 week long experience between the covers. The Course Book is free of charge for every officer student, and is delivered by post to their home brigade-level unit within a few months of the course’s end. Advertisements are sold with Selling of Advertisement space, and the money earned supports the functions of the Student Body, such as the free of charge Course Book.
