DEPARTMENTS

There are 12 departments operating under the Board within the Student Union:

COURSE BALL DEPARTMENT

The Course Ball Department is responsible for organising the second most important event in Finland. From one Reserve Officer Course to another, the Course Ball has brought together officer students with their avecs in the highlight of their service, to enjoy being together, the performers, and of course the Speksi-spectacle planned by students.

COURSE BOOK DEPARTMENT

The Course Book Department is tasked with archiving the events, characters, and atmosphere of the course between book covers. The Course Book is a traditional part of going through the Reserve Officer Course, and the books decorate the bookshelves of many Finns.

ADVERTISEMENT ACQUISITIONS DEPARTMENT

The Advertisement Acquisitions Department is responsible for selling ad space in the Course Book. Every officer student has the opportunity to sell, and the profits from selling are used to fund the Student Union’s activities.

TRANSPORTATION DEPARTMENT

The Transportation Department, acting in tandem with the Organisational Secretary of the Reserve Officer School, is responsible for transporting 600 officer students to and from their weekend leave. Additionally, the department organises the students’ avecs’ transportation from their homes around Finland to the Course Ball in Hamina, and back.

SPORTS DEPARTMENT

The Sports Department is responsible for the exercise opportunities of students both within and outside the garrison. During the free time, sports clubs and the ROS-CUP and Isoympyräviesti competitions between the companies, organised by the sports department, bring both feelings of togetherness and perspiration.

SOCIAL DEPARTMENT

The Social Department is responsible for the well-being of, as well as advocating for the officer students. The department arranges atmosphere surveys, hunting courses, dancing courses, blood donations, and many other activities for free time.

CULTURE DEPARTMENT

The Culture Department is responsible for organising the course choir, band, as well as the Speksi-performances. The most artistic and forceful personalities of the course, led by the department’s leader, offer the officer students high culture throughout the course.

FINANCE DEPARTMENT

The Finance Department’s corner is characterised by the constant hum of calculators. The main responsibility of the department is determining the budget for the course, as well as making sure that it is followed. The department also plans and orders different traditional products for the whole course.

ICT DEPARTMENT

The ICT Department is a vital part of the Student Union’s workflow. The computers, printers, and storage media used by the Union are under the watchful eye of the department, and if problems occur, the department fixes the equipment into working condition. So whether the topic is passwords or purchasing new equipment, the ICT department is ready to serve.

ANNOUNCEMENT DEPARTMENT

The Announcement Department is responsible for the communication between the course and the Student Union. It provides different Sohlo-information leaflets, and together with the ICT department administers the Student Union’s website and social media. Additionally, in tandem with the Course Book Department, the department produces different printed products for the course, such as the course poster and posters for the barrack rooms of officer cadets. One of the most important tasks of the Announcement Department is the planning and execution of the course logo.

SPIRITUAL DEPARTMENT

The Spiritual Department is trusted with the officer students’ spiritual well-being. The most beautiful Christmas carols, and evening and field services bring balance to the hectic military training.

HISTORY DEPARTMENT

The History Department works largely in tandem with Kannike to maintain and present the ROS-Museum. The department also works to maintain the traditions of the Reserve Officer School and the Student Union’s archive.
